Our Mission

To achieve self-determination and full citizenship for persons with disabilities by promoting awareness, opportunities, choices and participation in all aspects of life in the Northwest Territories.

Our Vision

The NWT Disabilities Council is committed to helping build caring, inclusive and responsible communities in which persons with disabilities will be:
  • recognized as unique individuals with the right to self-determination;
  • given the opportunity and support to make individual choices in seeking to create their preferred lifestyle;
  • empowered to make decisions independently and/or interdependently with the support of people of their choosing;
  • able to live with equality in an open, caring, supportive and accessible community;
  • able to fully participate and make their contributions in all aspects of community life;
  • able to pursue their own interests, to find jobs, to build careers and to enjoy volunteer opportunities around these interests;
  • aware of all the options and opportunities that exist within their community and the NWT; and,
  • able to live, learn, work and enjoy leisure time in safety.
